My father told me when I was young, no matter where you run
Remember where you’re from
When life puts a fork in the road, you don’t know which way to go

Growin’ up in my hometown I had dreams of settling down
With a family of my own
My country called, I had to go, had to leave everything I’d known
Sometimes it’s who you are 

I remembered, family was my rock
When I was gone, their love it didn’t stop
Days crawled by and the nights got long
Thoughts about my roots kept me strong
Kept me strong

Time’s passed since I’ve been home, now I’ve got a son of my own
And innocence is in his eyes
He’s grown fast and I’ll pass along the same things my father taught
